TFM Recognized as a “Success Story” during National Farmers Market Week

August 2017

Great news, market friends! TFM was chosen as the first market in the nation to be featured in Farmers Market Success Stories. The series is part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Farmers Market Week — and what a way to celebrate! TFM is honored to be included.IMG_20170621_145225_491_1

Created by the USDA in partnership with the Farmers Market Coalition, these success stories highlight “markets from across the country working to improve access to fresh, local products for low-income community members.”

But the honor isn’t TFM’s alone. We couldn’t do it without the help of our dedicated partners including MultiCare Health Systems, the Washington State Department of Health, the Taco Time Northwest Foundation, the City of Tacoma, WSU Pierce County Extension, and Tacoma Housing Authority. Working together on matching funds programs such as Fresh Bucks and the Senior Farm Share Program, we’re helping our most vulnerable citizens get more farm-fresh food in their diets.

We’re also building community. These programs attract shoppers of all ages and income levels to the market, and the extra funding goes directly into the hands of our local farmers and other small businesses. Stroll through any of our five markets and watch the smiles on the faces of shoppers and vendors as they mingle, and marvel at the diversity of our community. You see everyone at the market. And we’re proud to create a place for people to come together.

A final note of thanks to the Washington State Farmers Market Association for your steady support and for suggesting us for this series. Go, Tacoma!
